The elephant in the room is that it was too expensive to buy a Macbook with more storage for a child, and now it's impossible to upgrade. I usually just replace an SSD if I run over 50% utilization.


SSDs become slower as the fill up, and wear leveling has less available space to choose from when writing data.

But filling up an SSD should not brick your volume like that. This is a filesystem implementation bug, not a user error.
